Technical notes
- KERNVEX MEX Series graphite square end mill is designed for graphite electrode, graphite mold, graphite plate, EDM graphite material, and abrasive non-metal material machining.
- Graphite is highly abrasive and usually produces fine powder-like dust during dry machining. Compared with ordinary metal cutting, graphite machining requires stronger wear resistance, stable cutting edge quality, smooth dust evacuation, and reliable dimensional accuracy.
- As a square end mill, the MEX graphite end mill is mainly used for flat surface machining, bottom surface machining, graphite slotting, side milling, contouring, semi-finishing, and finishing. The square end geometry helps produce flat bottoms, straight side walls, clean slot shapes, and stable surface quality.
- With ultra-fine carbide, diamond coating, optimized flute geometry, and precision grinding control, this graphite square end mill helps improve tool life, surface consistency, and machining stability in graphite cutting applications.
- KERNVEX can provide different flute options, including 2-flute and 4-flute designs, according to graphite grade, tool diameter, cutting depth, dust evacuation requirement, and surface finish target. Standard sizes, custom dimensions, OEM production, and application-specific graphite end mill solutions are available.
- For complex 3D curved surfaces, a graphite ball nose end mill is usually more suitable. For side-wall machining or profile finishing where stronger corner protection is required, a graphite corner radius end mill can be considered.
- Diamond Coating for Graphite Machining
- The MEX graphite square end mill uses diamond coating to improve wear resistance during dry graphite machining. Graphite is an abrasive material that can quickly wear ordinary carbide tools, especially in long-cycle electrode and mold machining.
- Diamond coating helps protect the cutting edge, reduce abrasive wear, and maintain more stable tool performance during graphite finishing, slotting, and semi-finishing operations.
- Special parent material of the diamond coating.
- high-purity diamond coating material, Hardness can reach more than 80 gpa. Wear resistance, superior performance, the most suitable for machining graphite, high-silicon aluminum alloy, fiber resin(FRP)
- Ultra-Fine Carbide Substrate
- MEX graphite square end mills use ultra-fine grain carbide with MG 1.0 μm grain size and 6% cobalt content. This carbide substrate provides stable hardness, edge strength, and coating support for abrasive graphite cutting conditions.
- A stable carbide base helps improve cutting edge consistency and supports longer tool life in graphite electrode, graphite mold, and abrasive non-metal material machining.
- Square End Geometry for Flat Surface and Slotting
- The square end design is suitable for applications that require flat bottoms, straight side walls, clean slot shapes, and stable planar surfaces.
- It is suitable for graphite flat surface finishing, bottom surface machining, graphite slotting, side milling, contour machining, and general graphite profile machining.
- Compared with a graphite ball nose end mill, a square end mill is more suitable for flat surface and slot machining. Compared with a graphite corner radius end mill, it is more suitable when the workpiece requires a clear square edge or flat-bottom shape.
- Optimized Flute Design for Dust Evacuation
- Graphite machining produces fine dust instead of normal metal chips. If graphite dust cannot be removed smoothly, it may affect tool wear, surface finish, and machining stability.
- The MEX graphite square end mill uses optimized flute geometry to support smoother graphite dust evacuation. It is suitable for dry cutting and air blow conditions commonly used in graphite machining.
- 2-Flute and 4-Flute Options Available
- This product is not limited to one fixed flute design. KERNVEX can provide 2-flute and 4-flute options according to the customer's machining conditions.
- A 2-flute graphite end mill provides larger flute space and is suitable when dust evacuation is more important.
- A 4-flute graphite end mill provides more cutting edges and stronger finishing stability, which is suitable for stable semi-finishing and finishing applications.
- Precision Grinding and Runout Control
- Stable runout and dimensional accuracy are important for graphite finishing, especially in electrode machining and mold component machining.
- MEX graphite square end mills are produced with precision grinding control to support stable cutting edge geometry, consistent tool dimensions, and reliable machining accuracy.
- MEX graphite square end mills are suitable for graphite machining applications that require strong wear resistance, stable cutting performance, smooth dust evacuation, and consistent surface quality.
